Hidden and Private are not the same
Hidden only takes the group out of the public list - anyone with the link still gets in. Private actually refuses non-members. If the point is that outsiders should not read your content, Hidden is not enough.
Your group profile
The group profile is the identity everything else hangs off: the name, the picture, who may join and how visible the group is on the platform. It is the first tab of the group settings and the one worth getting right before anything else.
Where it lives
Settings in the group admin opens a strip of tabs - Group, Languages, Email, Social, SEO, Promotion, Plugins, Export, Images - and Group is the first of them. Everything on this page is one form with a save button; nothing here takes effect the moment you touch it.
Every field on the Group tab
- Group Name
- What the group is called everywhere - the navbar, the platform group list, the generated promotion images and the link previews.
- Description
- The paragraph shown to someone deciding whether to join. It is the group's pitch, not its schedule.
- Tags
- Comma-separated keywords such as tech, outdoor or social. They exist so people browsing the platform can find the group.
- Visibility
- Public means visible on meetagain.org. Hidden keeps the group out of the group list while leaving it reachable. Private is not accessible for non-members at all.
- Group Image
- The link preview shown when a page from this group is shared in chat or on social media. Ideal size 1200 x 630; other sizes are centre-cropped to that ratio.
- Group Logo
- Replaces the navbar logo on the group's own domain. Square or wide works best; PNG, JPG or WEBP up to 5 MB.
- Require approval for new members
- With it on, joining creates a pending membership an organizer has to approve. With it off, people are in the moment they join.
- Show Town Hall
- Turns on the members-only Town Hall hub for this group. The platform-wide toggle has to be on as well, so this can be on and still show nothing.
- Maximum members
- A cap on the membership. Leave it empty for no limit.
- Custom Domain
- Read-only here: it shows the current domain and links to the change flow rather than letting you type a new one. Your own domain covers that.
