Editing and cancelling events

Editing an event, calling one off and deleting it are three different things with three different consequences. Cancelling keeps the page and tells the attendees; deleting takes the whole series and everything attached to it.

The edit screen and its danger zone

Events in the group sidebar lists what your group has scheduled; clicking a row opens it for editing. The ordinary fields are at the top; the actions that cannot be undone by re-editing sit in the Danger Zone down the right. When people have already RSVPed, a notice below the form says how many, and carries the checkbox that tells them about the change.

Changing an event people signed up for

    Make the change

    Edit the fields as usual. If the event is part of a series, decide whether this change is for this one occurrence or for all of them.

    Decide about the attendees

    A notice tells you how many people have already said they are coming. "Notify %count% members" sends them the update; without it the change is silent.

    Save

    The flash message reports what happened, including how many follow-up events were updated when you ticked "Update all following".

The four danger-zone actions

Update all following
A checkbox, not a button. Applies your edit to this occurrence and every later one in the series instead of to this one alone.
Cancel Event
Marks the event cancelled. The page stays up with a cancelled tag, the RSVP button disappears, and everyone who had RSVPed is notified. This is the right tool for "it is not happening".
Uncancel Event
The reverse, in the same place. A cancelled event can be brought back.
Delete Event
Removes the event and, for a series, every recurring event in it - along with the RSVPs, comments and event images. The confirmation says as much and suggests cancelling instead.

Cancel, do not delete

Deleting takes the whole series and everything attached to it, and there is no undo. Cancelling keeps the record, tells the people who were coming, and can be reversed. The only good reason to delete is an event that should never have existed.
